
45 visually impaired students rescued by Assam Rifles in Manipur
Imphal: Assam Rifles rescued 45 visually impaired students and support staff of Mission Blind School, Kakching, amid violent clashes in Manipur in the first week of May, an official release said.
According to the official statement, on the request of Parenag Kom, principal of the Mission Blind School, an internal safety column was launched to rescue the stranded visually impaired children and support staff.
They were safely evacuated to the Kakching Garrison where they were provided comfort, food and shelter from 3 May.
“Finally, the Assam Rifles along with the family members took the initiative to send these children home safely through dedicated columns on May 13,” the release said.
The initiative of AR in reuniting these stranded children and staff with their relatives was deeply appreciated by Mission Blind School Principal K Parenag Kom and their parents.
He expressed his gratitude and appreciated the efforts of the Assam Rifles in these difficult times, the statement added.
