GUWAHATI: A compilation of over 4.2 million essays on the brave Ahom general Lachit Borphukan has been recognized by Guinness World Records as the “largest online photo album of handwritten notes”.
Here, Guinness World Records judge Swapnil Dangarikar handed over the official letter of recognition to Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Thursday.
Entries in more than 25 languages were uploaded to a portal in October-November last year, which was launched as part of Borphukan’s 400th anniversary celebrations.
Only handwritten entries were considered for the world record.
The state government marked the end of the birthday celebrations in November last year with several programmes, the finale of which was held in New Delhi and was attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah.
Borphukan is known for his leadership in the 1671 ‘Battle of Saraighat’ on the Brahmaputra which thwarted an attempt to retake Assam by the powerful Mughal forces led by Raja Ramsingh-I.
