Noklak: In another incident of pre-poll violence in Nagaland on February 20, at least four persons were injured when LJP and National People’s Party (NPP) supporters clashed in Thonoknyu constituency under Noklak district of the state.
In an altercation near his party office, LJP and NPP supporters pelted stones at each other.
A section of IR, a NAP team and a platoon of BSF brought the situation under control. However, four injured were sent to hospital after their injuries.
The Officer-in-Charge of Thonoknyu Constituency sustained injuries.
According to reports, at least five vehicles were damaged in the stone pelting and the attack was carried out by supporters of NDPP and LJP candidates.
In a separate incident, stones were pelted on the motorcade of NPP state president Andrew Ahoto Seema while he was returning from an election campaign in Thoktsur in Kiphire district on Sunday night, resulting in a fire, police said. A person was injured and five vehicles were damaged.
He said that the people responsible for the incident have not been identified yet.
On the night of February 18 in Indisen village, a few people fired some blank bullets near the house of the NDPP candidate for the Dimapur II Assembly seat.
According to a member of the Indian Youth Organization, Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) supporters reportedly arrived in six to seven vehicles, engaged in sloganeering, threw empty bottles at the candidate’s house, and six before leaving the area. Blank rounds were fired.
Police said that two vehicles belonging to LJP supporters have been seized.
Polling for the 60-member assembly in Nagaland will be held on February 27 and counting of votes will take place on March 2.
