Imphal: At least three elderly Meitei women died of suspected high blood pressure and a village volunteer was injured when miscreants allegedly lobbed bombs and bullets at Sugnu village in Manipur’s Kakching district on Wednesday, officials said on Thursday.
Khaidem Achoubi (74), Laishram Dashu-mati Devi (60) and Thongam Chaoba Devi (80) from Sugnu village in the southern part of the state died of high blood pressure as miscreants attacked the Sugnu since Wednesday morning.
A volunteer from the village was also shot in the chest and was shifted to a hospital in Imphal after first aid at Jivan Hospital in Kakching district.
Heavily armed miscreants attacked the Manipur Rifles post in Sugnu area from Khongnang Pheisabi in Chandel district.
Another attack was then launched from Lailoipai and Dongyang in Churachandpur district, which are near Sugnu and just across the Manipur river.
Officials added that the exchange of fire followed retaliatory action by state security forces and village volunteers.
