Guwahati: The Guwahati City Police on July 5 seized a large quantity of illegal substances at the Inter-State Bus Terminus (ISBT) in Lokhra area and detained three traffickers.
Police searched the trio after receiving a tip-off and found 10 packages of heroin weighing 150 grams from their possession. According to the police, the value of the exported items in the foreign market is estimated to be around Rs 12 lakh.
The arrested smugglers have been identified as Kij Gamlin, Thomas Gayedi and Ram Saba.
While Subba is from Gohpur in Assam, Gamlin and Gayedi are from Arunachal Pradesh. It has been revealed that the three were involved in drug trafficking in several parts of the region.
All three have been arrested, and inquiries into other connections have been launched.
Last month, two drug peddlers were caught with 2.5 kg of heroin during an operation by the Assam Police in Karimganj district.
Karimganj police, who were conducting an anti-narcotics operation in the area, intercepted a vehicle coming from Mizoram and recovered 2.5 kg of heroin from it.
Two shopkeepers were arrested in connection with the seizure. Ahad Uddin and Maqbul Hussain have been identified as paddlers.
