Campaigning for Tripura by-elections ended

KOHIMA: At least 225 candidates are in the fray for the 60 assembly constituencies in Nagaland for polls 2023.

Candidates belonging to 13 political parties, independent and “standby” have filed nomination papers for the upcoming Nagaland Assembly polls.
According to sources, Nagaland has the highest number of 39 candidates in Mon, of which five are “standbys”.

After Mon, Mokokchung is second with 32 nominations.
A total of 25 independent candidates are in the fray for the Nagaland assembly polls.

The ruling Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP) and its BJP have fielded candidates in 40 and 20 constituencies respectively.
On the other hand, Nagaland Congress has fielded candidates in 25 constituencies.
Meanwhile, Naga People’s Front (NPF) got 22, LJP-R got 17, National People’s Party (NPP) got 12, Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) got 11, Republican Party of India (Athawale) ) has fielded 8, Janata Dal has fielded 8 candidates. (United) fielded 8, Rashtriya Janata Dal 4, Rising People’s Party one and CPI one.
Scrutiny of nomination papers will be held on Wednesday and last date for withdrawal of nomination papers is February 10.

Polling for the 60-member Nagaland Legislative Assembly elections is scheduled to be held in a single phase on February 27.

Counting of votes will take place on March 2.
