20 killed in 10 years in inter-state border disputes: Assam Minister

Guwahati: More than 20 people have been killed in border disputes between Assam and neighboring states in the last 10 years, a minister told the assembly on Wednesday.

Thirteen people were killed in Golaghat district in two years, 12 of them in 2014 and one in 2015 – Border Protection and Development Minister Atal Bora said in a written reply.

Bora said six policemen were killed in inter-state border clashes in Cachar district.

The Minister also pointed out that an area of 73284.99 hectares belonging to Assam is under the control of four neighboring states.

Bora added that out of this, Nagaland has occupied 59227.29 hectares, followed by Arunachal Pradesh with 8395.25 hectares, Mizoram with 1777.58 hectares and Meghalaya with 20 square kilometers.

He also said that talks were being held with neighboring states to resolve border disputes.
