Kohima: The Indian Army in collaboration with the Southern Angami Sports Association organized a dynamic two-day sports tournament at Zakhama in Nagaland’s Kohima district under the banner of Operation Sadbhavna.
The event, which was held from February 9 to 10, aimed to promote the spirit of sports and promote physical activity among the local youth.
The tournament welcomed the participation of both men and women, with volleyball for both genders and soccer exclusively for men, attracting a total of 11 teams in each category.
MLA of 9th Kohima Town Constituency Dr.Tseilhoutuo attended the inauguration ceremony as Chief Guest.
The event was attended by Dr. Neiketou Kiso, former president Southern Angami Public Organization (SAPO), as well as representatives of various youth organizations, student unions, village officials, and community leaders of Southern Angami.
Throughout the tournament, the enthusiastic participants exhibited remarkable sportsmanship, captivating the attention and garnering tremendous support from the local community.
In the fiercely contested finals of the men’s football category, Youth Organisation Kidima Club emerged victorious, showcasing exceptional skill and determination. Meanwhile, in the volleyball segment, Youth Organisation Kigwema Club triumphed in the men’s category, while the women’s category saw Youth Organisation Kidima Club clinching the title. The victorious teams were honored and awarded medals and trophies by the Chief Guest.
As the tournament drew to a close, dignitaries expressed heartfelt appreciation to the Indian Army for their generous sponsorship and unwavering support in organising such events. They emphasised the pivotal role of sports in nurturing the youth and fostering a culture of athleticism and camaraderie within the community.
