Shillong: The 1st Meghalaya International Film Festival is an initiative of the Meghalaya Film Makers Association (MeFilm), a registered society based in Shillong comprising the State Film Makers Society, Meghalaya under the aegis of Founder President Commander Shangpliang and Meghalaya Tourism. Government of Registered under the Societies Registration Act 1860.
The festival will screen more than 65 films and documentaries over five days, with a gala opening on the evening of March 14 at Soso Tham Auditorium, while the closing ceremony will take place on the evening of March 18 at the same venue.
Tourism and Arts and Culture Minister Paul Lyngdoh will inaugurate the first Meghalaya International Film Festival. Famous film personality Adil Hussain will attend the event as a special guest.
There will be four locations where parallel screening will be conducted. Megh IFF is expected to attract more than 5,000 spectators from across the country, including the host countries.
The objective of the festival is to create a film culture in the state, especially among its youth to create a conscious citizenry. Besides, it will also lead to stories of the state through films and documentaries by filmmakers, not to mention meaningful employment generation.
