Shillong: IIM Shillong hosted its 14th Annual Convocation on April 2 where 5 Doctoral Scholars were conferred with Ph.D.
Besides, 236 students of PGP-2021-23 batch (2-year full-time residential program), 43 students of PGPEX batch-2022-23 (1-year full-time residential program), 16 students of PGPWE2020-22 and 47 students of PGPWE2021- 23 batches where MBA degrees were awarded.
Delivering the welcome address, Shishir Kumar Bajoria, Chairman of the Board of Governors, congratulated the students on their achievements and emphasized the importance of skill development in shaping India’s future.
He urged the students to utilize their education from IIM Shillong to make a positive impact on the society.
“You are the product of new India. Since 1947 India has received FDI of 950 billion dollars of which 532 billion received in the last 3 years. The first GDP growth was 3.5 trillion dollars which took 67 years while 2nd trillion took 8 years and 3rd trillion 5 years.From 10th largest economy in 2015 to 5th largest economy is knocking on Germany’s door for 4th position after Russia, Italy, Brazil, France and UK. This is the new India. 65% of our GDP is driven by domestic demand. With a population of 1.4 billion, there are nearly 1 billion young Indians with an average age of 29 years. India is the youngest country in the world and will remain so for the next 70 years and dear students, you are going to participate in it as young Indians,” he said.

Addressing the convocation, Rajeev Chandrasekhar expressed gratitude as the Chief Guest of the 14th Convocation of IIM Shillong.
“India has been fortunate to grow globally, with initiatives like Digital India contributing to the country’s growth. While many countries, such as China and the UK, are struggling with recession and other challenges are, India is continuously developing and emerging as a global leader. I strongly believe that India is the country of the decade, and I request the students of IIM Shillong to contribute to the country’s development and Leverage your education to make a positive impact on society,” said Chandrasekhar.
Further, he mentioned that New India offers great opportunities to young Indians to pursue their dreams and achieve goals based on their hard work and talents. Chandrasekhar congratulated all the graduating students and wished them a bright future.
Gaurav Swarup congratulated the students and emphasized the importance of leveraging their education to make a positive impact on society.
IIM Shillong Director Prof D.P. Goyal expressed pride in the students’ achievements and praised the faculty and staff for their efforts in imparting industry-relevant education.
Prof Goyal said, “As you embark on your professional journey, I urge you all to uphold our institution’s values of integrity, compassion and excellence, and use your knowledge and skills to build a better tomorrow. Use it to contribute.”
The convocation ceremony was attended by 238 students, who received job offers from 63 recruiters in various fields.
Union Minister Rajeev Chandrasekhar highlighted the government’s initiatives to create a conducive ecosystem for startups and urged students to take advantage of the opportunities available to them.
The convocation ceremony concluded with the pledge of the graduating scholars and students, creating a sense of pride and accomplishment as the students look forward to making their mark in the corporate world armed with the skills and knowledge imparted by IIM Shillong.
