
13 Active freedom fighters of KCP held by security forces in Imphal
Imphal: In a major development ahead of the Lok Sabha elections, the Manipur Police have successfully arrested 13 active freedom fighters of the banned KCP and rescued a kidnapped person from the outfit’s clutches.
The arrests came as a result of targeted raids conducted in Imphal West district, following actionable intelligence about a recruitment drive by a valley-based insurgent outfit.
The coordinated operation saw the participation of cops from Imphal West, Thoubal, and Bishnupur districts, alongside troopers of Assam Rifles and CRPF.
Led by an executive magistrate, the joint team focused its efforts on two suspected training camps situated in the northern region of Imphal West.
The meticulously planned raids resulted in the dismantling of both camps, the detention of 13 freedom fighters associated with the outlawed Kangleipak Communist Party (People’s War Group – KCP (PWG)), and the successful rescue of a hostage.
According to sources, the apprehended militants were allegedly engaged in various unlawful activities, including the training of recruits, kidnappings, and extortion. A substantial cache of weapons and ammunition, including rifles, pistols, grenades, magazines, and assorted rounds, was seized during the operation.
Additionally, mobile phones, extortion-related demand letters, and financial documents linked to the KCP (PWG) were confiscated for further investigation.
The operation also resulted in the seizure of several vehicles, notably a Maruti Gypsy, a Bolero camper, and various motorcycles and cars. Furthermore, training paraphernalia such as bamboo dummy guns and camouflage clothing were recovered from the raided locations.
The arrested freedom fighters have been identified as Sagolsem James (26), Khumbongmayum Ranjan (24), Ningthoukhongjam Robichand (26), Ningthoukhongjam Sushil (48), Moirangthem Mohen (40), Thokchom Micheal (25), Seram Athem (27), Khulem Bidur (51), Kangabam Abungo (21), Yumlembam Inao (43), Ningthoujam Ranjeeta Devi (20), Salam Binita Devi (20), and Thokchom Sumati Devi (29).
The rescued individual, identified as Sagolshem Bobo (28), has been reunited with his family following the successful operation.
