Imphal: According to official sources, 121 people have been killed and 352 injured in the Manipur riots that started on May 3. There have been 4,305 arson attacks since the violence began.
Sources further revealed that more than 60,152 people have been displaced as a result of communal riot in Manipur, and are housed in 272 relief camps spread across the state. 37,177 people are still living in relief camps and community halls.
On June 12, while the Governor of Manipur was visiting Lamka, miscreants attacked Loklakphai village in Churachandpur, killing a 22-year-old boy around 2:30 pm.
Meanwhile, on June 12, fresh violence erupted at Khamenlok in Manipur’s Kangpokpi district, after almost a day of peace in the state. According to reliable sources, the miscreants attacked the villagers, injuring ten people, and entered Raj Medcity in Imphal East district.
According to reports, on June 11, 2023 at around 12:30 PM, two unidentified youths who alighted from Ichum Kom Keirap in Waroiching/Leimaram area were detained by villagers.
However, with the help of villagers, civil societies and media in both Ichum Kom and Leimaram Waroiching areas, the youths have finally been handed over to the police for further verification.
In a press statement, Bishnupur district SP, Hesinam Balram Singh said, “On behalf of Bishnupur district police, I express my sincere gratitude and thanks to everyone, including the villagers of Chum kom Keirap, Waroiching, Leimaram, civil societies. , media community, CAPF/Army personnel who have to be handed over to District Police for necessary verification.”
Meanwhile, the MHA has extended the deployment of 114 companies of the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) in the state till June 30.
