Guwahati: Renowned swimming duo Elvis Ali Hazarika and Rimo Saha created history by swimming in Brahmaputra river for 12 hours.
Each of them swam around a sandbar near Guwahati from 5 am to 5 pm on Friday.
Hazarika said that this record has been recognized by the Assam Book of Records.
Sharing the news of the feat on Facebook, the swimmer from Assam wrote: “I thought it would be impossible but I did it. Me and my channel swimming partner Remo Saha swam non-stop in the Brahmaputra river from 5AM-5PM and was witnessed and acknowledged by the Assam Book of Records.
He said that he was undergoing regular training in Brahmaputra for the past few months.
Hazarika and his teammate Saha, who hails from West Bengal, made history in September last year by becoming the first Indian and Asian relay team to cross the North Channel in Europe.
Ace swimmers also became the first from their respective states to successfully cross the North Channel in a relay swim.
Hazarika became the first Assamese swimmer to cross the Catalina Channel in the US in 2019.
