Imphal: A fast-track court in Manipur on Tuesday booked a 37-year-old man under Section 366 of the IPC and Section 4 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses for abducting and sexually assaulting a 17-year-old girl. Sentenced to 10 years imprisonment under (POCSO) Act, 2012.
Special Judge Fast Track Special Court No. II, Ch Brajachand also imposed a fine of Rs.2000 on the culprit, identified as Nemengcha (alias Memengcha aka Thangtinsem Khongsai aka Sanathoi aka Thoi aka Boisem), a village in Saikhul Pk. Son of Eto Khongsai of Saikhul District of Manipur.
This case is on August 25, 2018 when the father of the rape victim filed a complaint with the police at around 3 pm.
The victim’s father lodged a complaint at the Women’s Police Station in Thoubal that his daughter was abducted by the accused as his wife from Thoubal and had sex with her before dropping her off the next day in Uripok area, about 1 km from Imphal city.
The rapist was arrested on August 30, 2018 from Thoubal parking lot near Johnstone Higher Secondary School, Imphal, according to the court proceedings document.
The then Sub-Inspector of Women Police Station, Thoubal and an investigating officer, Asem Satyapati, submitted a charge sheet against the accused for trial under Section 366-A IPC and Section 4 of the POCSO Act.
The court observed during its hearings that the prosecution had successfully proved the charges against the accused and convicted him under Section 366-A IPC (kidnapping) and Section 4 (rape of a minor) of the POCSO Act.
