A 12-hour bandh called by the Adi Studentsโ€™ Union (AdiSU) disrupted normal life in Siang and Upper Siang districts on 22 September 2025, drawing widespread participation from local residents. The bandh, observed from 5:00 am to 5:00 pm, aims to press for what the union describes as โ€œlegitimate and urgentโ€ demands.

AdiSUโ€™s primary demands include the immediate removal of alleged illicit paramilitary personnel stationed in the districts, eviction of illegal encroachments on government school premises in Siang, and revocation of suspension orders issued against eight GBs/HGBs by the Deputy Commissioner of Siang.

The union is also calling for a halt to all Preliminary Feasibility Report (PFR) activities for the Siang Upper Multipurpose Project (SUMP) until all 31 affected villages are properly consulted.

The union has exempted exam-going students, teachers, and essential services from the bandh, including magistrates on duty, milk vans, military movements, and medical emergencies.

Authorities and local residents are closely monitoring the situation, with public response and developments being tracked throughout the districts.
