The villagers claimed that the disputed land, which connects to Assamโs Lakhimpur district through Harmoti town, has historically belonged to Arunachal Pradesh. They asserted that for decades, the local population has been engaged in cultivation on the land, thereby establishing their rightful ownership.
Alleging high-handedness by Assam forest personnel, the villagers said the officials have been obstructing their agricultural activities and attempting to intimidate locals despite the long-standing settlement of the area by Arunachal residents.
Community leaders have demanded immediate intervention from the Arunachal Pradesh government, urging it to take up the matter with Assam authorities to prevent further escalation.
The incident once again highlights the fragile peace along sections of the AssamโArunachal border, where land disputes have frequently led to confrontations between residents and officials on either side.
