A massive torch rally was held in Dibrugarh on Saturday, November 1 evening by the Tai Ahom Yuba Parishad, Assam (TAYPA), pressing for the long-standing demand of Scheduled Tribe (ST) status and autonomous governance for the Tai Ahom community.

The rally, organized under the call of TAYPAโ€™s Central Committee and coordinated by the Dibrugarh District Committee, witnessed widespread participation from members of the Tai Ahom Mahila Parishad and local citizens.

Starting from Chowkidinghee playground and culminating at Thana Chariali, hundreds of protestors marched through the streets holding flaming torches and chanting slogans such as โ€œAhom has awakened, will awaken again โ€” No ST, No Rest,โ€ โ€œNo ST, No Vote,โ€ โ€œWe may die, but we will achieve tribal status,โ€ โ€œWe demand tribal recognition,โ€ and โ€œDown with BJP.โ€

The protestors reaffirmed their determination to continue their agitation until the government fulfills their demand for constitutional recognition and self-governance rights. The rally concluded with a collective pledge to intensify the movement across Assam in the coming days.
