Thousands gathered at Loharghat’s Sasolpara playground in Azara, Assam, on October 31 in a spontaneous demonstration seeking justice for singer Zubeen Garg.

The protest drew participants from across South Kamrup, including the Barduwa-Bagan area, in what organisers described as an entirely voluntary mobilisation.

Raja Barua, a close associate of the late singer, issued a stark warning during the demonstration. He stated that those allegedly involved in a conspiracy surrounding Garg’s death would face consequences from millions of supporters. “The people will not remain silent,” Barua told the assembled crowd.

Artist Panchana Rabha, speaking at the event, stressed the need for institutional accountability. She maintained that authorities must deliver justice, adding that public sentiment would otherwise demand action through alternative means.

Protesters marched through the streets chanting slogans including “Justice for Zubeen Garg,” “Give Zubeen Da Justice,” and “We Will Stand United.” Some demonstrators also directed their anger at the state government with chants of “BJP Government Beware.”

The demonstration reflected cross-community support, with participants from various ethnic backgrounds joining the peaceful procession. Both Barua and Rabha marched alongside supporters, who had assembled without formal organisation to pay tribute to the musician and demand answers regarding the circumstances of his death.
