A suspected mortar explosion claimed the life of a 13-year-old boy and injured two others in Bogajuli Dholpara village under the Tamulpur district of Assam.

According to local sources, the explosion occurred after two boys reportedly discovered an unidentified object near a dong (rivulet) in the area. Mistaking it for a harmless item, they carried it home.

Shortly after, the object detonated inside their residence, resulting in one fatality and injuries to two individuals present nearby.

The deceased has been identified as Ima Boro (13), who succumbed to his injuries on the spot. The injured have been identified as Mohit Basumatary (10), a young boy who was with the victim, and Nijora Ramchiary (35), an adult woman believed to be a relative. Both were rushed to a nearby medical facility and are currently undergoing treatment. Their condition is reported to be stable.

Hearing the blast, villagers alerted the authorities, and a police team led by senior officials rushed to the scene. The site of the explosion has been cordoned off, and a bomb disposal unit is expected to assess the remnants of the device to determine its nature and origin.
