The Global Naga Forum expressed deep concern over recent factional violence between NSCN-K (Angmai Mulatonu) andย NSCN-K (Yung Aung) groupsย in Naga inhabited areas of northwestern Myanmar, saying the clashes had claimed Naga lives and further destabilized an already fragile region.

In a statement issued through its media cell, the forum said an armed incident on Jan. 9, followed by retaliatory violence on Jan. 12, had sharply escalated tensions in the area.

Describing theย killing of Nagasย by fellow Nagas as a tragedy that could not be justified under any circumstances, the forum said internal armed confrontations only deepen fear, division and irreversible loss, particularly at a time when villages remain vulnerable and border areas tense.

โ€œEvery bullet fired at another Naga tears the moral fabric of our people,โ€ the statement said, adding that such violence undermines social cohesion and erodes the collective strength of Naga society.

Citing the deteriorating security situation, the Global Naga Forum announced the cancellation of its planned visit to the Naga New Year celebrations in Layshi town, scheduled for Jan. 14โ€“16.

The forum called for an immediate cessation of violence and urged Naga groups to resolve differences through dialogue rather than arms. It said the true cost of the conflict is borne by civilians, particularly mothers, youth and villages living under constant fear.

The group also appealed to Naga organizations in eastern Naga areas to exercise restraint and act responsibly, stressing the importance of unity, coexistence and mutual respect in a sensitive region bordering diverse ethnic communities.

The forum conveyed condolences to bereaved families and wished a speedy recovery to those injured. โ€œWe stand with the people in their desire for peace โ€” not with violence,โ€ the statement said.
