A massive protest erupted in Mushalpur, Baksa district pf Assam as thousands of Adivasis took to the streets reiterating their long-pending demand for inclusion in the Scheduled Tribe (ST) list. The demonstrators also sought land ownership rights and a revision of daily wages for tea garden workers to Rs 551.

The protest, titled โ€œGon Hungkarโ€ (Peopleโ€™s Roar), witnessed participation from several Adivasi and tea tribe organizations, including the All Adivasi Studentsโ€™ Association of Assam (AASAA), All Tea Tribes Studentsโ€™ Association (ATTSA) Tamulpurโ€“Baksa units, Assam Chah Mazdoor Sangha, Tea Garden Primary Committees, Udalguri Youth Studentsโ€™ Council, and the All Adivasi Womenโ€™s Studentsโ€™ Association of Assam (AAWSAA).

Protesters marched in unison from Bathouguri to the Durga Mandir playground in Mushalpur, raising slogans such as โ€œNo ST, No Rest,โ€ โ€œAdivasis Awake,โ€ โ€œWe Want Land Patta,โ€ and โ€œBJP Go Back.โ€ The slogans echoed across the area, as the demonstrators demanded immediate government action.

Leaders of the Adivasi organizations cautioned the ruling government that failure to address their demands before the upcoming elections would invite a strong political backlash. They vowed to hold the BJP accountable in the 2026 Assembly elections if the communityโ€™s long-standing grievances remain unfulfilled.
