The Freedom Fighters Organisation, Socialist Revolutionary Party (SOREPA) Kangleipak has called a total shutdown in Manipur from 5 am to 5 pm on January 26, India’s Republic Day.
The oranisation in a press release issued by its publicity and secretary organization MC Yaiphabi, stated that India’s Republic Day is not the Republic Day of Manipur/Kangleipak.
The total shutdown, however, would not cover media, medical and other emergency services, SOREPA said.
Claiming that India, which was formed by forcefully merging various kingdoms into the Indian Union, bears no similarity to Manipur in terms of identity and culture, the outfit appealed to the people of Manipur not to celebrate India’s Republic Day.
SOREPA stated that it will support all boycotts, shutdowns, or general strikes called in WESEA, Kashmir, Khalistan, and Manipur on January 26 .
India was formed through colonization, though it portrays itself as a federation of States, the outfit claimed.
SOREPA also claimed that the WESEA was colonised by India to use the region as a fence for Hindi heartland.
The movement by various Nations to free themselves from colonial domination gained momentum after the Second World War, it said.
Stating that Manipur, which was under British rule for 53 years, regained its independence before India on the night of August 14-15, 1947, the outfit added that Manipur had its own written Constitution and a democratic Government before India.
Claiming that Manipur became part of India on October 15, 1949, after Maharaj Bodhachandra was coerced into signing the Merger Agreement in Shillong, SOREPA maintained that Manipur, once a sovereign kingdom, was reduced to a Part C State following the merger.
